# Detourmap > A free interactive world map of 39,832 places that reward a detour — parks, mountains, waterfalls, caves, volcanoes and coves; ancient ruins, tombs, ghost towns, shipwrecks, catacombs, mines, battlefields and crash sites — > across 233 countries. Free, no signup. The map carries Nature and Archaeological and nothing else — what nature made, and what people left behind. It draws every place from the first frame, and zooming in only pulls the dots apart. Its search finds any place or country, and a country opens a panel of its own with its most famous places. It has two filters: the kind of place (waterfalls, caves, volcanoes, beaches, landscapes, ancient sites, ghost towns, macabre sites) and fame — every place carries a tier (Iconic, Renowned, Notable, Hidden gem) derived from its Wikidata sitelink count, and the little-known majority is most of the map. To read rather than pan, the guide pages below list every place by country, by city and by kind. Data: every record comes from Wikidata (CC0); photos from Wikimedia Commons. A place only makes the map if it has coordinates on Earth, a photo, an English name and a Wikipedia article (English where one exists, otherwise at least three other languages).
